Laser Hair Removal Research Study
Would you like to participate in a hair removal study with laser treatment at no cost to you?
To be considered for participation in this study you must:
• Be a healthy adult woman, 18 to 40 years old, with brown or black hair and lighter skin tone (typically Caucasians, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans).
• Be in good overall health.

Thinking of quitting smoking?
UPMC seeks smokers ages 18-65 for research on the short-term effects of a Food and Drug Administration-approved oral medication, Chantix (varenicline), on smoking behavior, craving, and mood. This is not a treatment study.
You will first have a brief physical exam.The study has two phases, each three weeks long. Each phase involves a brief practice quit attempt over 5 days. You will visit the lab for 10-15 minutes on three to five days each week. Visits will be scheduled between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. You will be asked to take study medication that may or may not contain Chantix. Participants who complete the entire study will receive $595.
All participants will be given free written materials on quitting smoking at the end of the last session. Optional treatment involving brief counseling and Chantix will also be offered without charge.

The Cholesterol Research Center at the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) needs research participants for a study on saturated fat and cholesterol metabolism.

Volunteers will be randomized to receive either lipoic acid or a placebo (a pill that looks the same but has no lipoic acid in it). There is 50-50 chance of receiving the placebo.
Men and women, aged 18-50, should be healthy, non-smokers. There will be 5 visits over a 6 month period, lasting 1-2 hours each. They will have blood drawn, urine specimens given and body compositions assessed.
Participants will be compensated up to $225, if all study visits are completed.

The OHSU Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Clinical Nutrition needs women volunteers with polycystic ovary syndrome for studies of the effects of insulin resistance on cortisol production, testosterone levels, and body composition.

Interested in Acne Treatment on your Face?
Women 25 to 45 years old with mild to moderate acne on their face who are frustrated with their facial acne and committed to overall skin health are needed to participate in a clinical research study to test an investigational acne treatment using a small hand-held device and topical facial products.
o You will need to perform all treatments yourself at home in accordance with the device and topical treatment instructions.
o Requires a screening visit, a baseline visit, 4 weekly study visits (one half hour visit per week for 4 weeks) and a 6 and 8 week study visit (7 study visits total). All visits will take place in Pleasanton, CA.
o You must be in good health to be eligible to participate.
o You must be willing to adopt a specialized skin care regimen during the study.
o You must agree to stop using all acne medications while you are in the study.
o You will be paid $25 for the first screening visit, and $50 for the baseline visit and for each study visit for your time and travel. Subjects who complete all study visits and follow the study instructions will receive a $200 bonus. Including the bonus, subjects may receive up to $575.
o You will treat your entire face with an acne device and topicals daily for up to 8 weeks.
o Minors need to get permission of a parent or guardian to participate in the study.
